The 2020 Mazda CX-9 is one of the few 3rd row SUVs out there which demonstrate some character with a sculpted design, powerful engine, top safety features, luxurious and comfortable seating options and balanced performance. The CX-9 has some advanced safety features that make driving safe for both the driver and passengers. For all these reasons, the CX-9 is one of the most popular family cars. The 2020 Mazda CX-9 has some strategic upgrades to its design and performance specs such upgraded engine power, addition of a new Predictive AWD system and redesigned cabin packages. To understand what’s new and what has changed in the 2020 Mazda CX-9, we called upon Phoenix Mazda who has a great set of Mazda’s lineup for our perusal.
Exterior Changes
Though there is not much that has changed on the exterior of the 2020 Mazda CX-9 in terms of the body shape and sculpting, what’s new in the 2020 model is the addition of some advancements such as addition of High Beam Control as part of the standard offering right from the Sport trim onwards. This is a very handy feature that takes care to switch between high and low beams when it detects headlights of oncoming vehicles or taillights of the vehicles in front of you. The variable intermittent windshield wipers are now rain sensing and the side mirrors received heating.
Interior Alterations & Feature Additions
There are quite many alterations and feature additions inside the 2020 CX-9. On the Sport trim you now have an upgraded Remote Keyless Entry System with addition of illumination and an ‘answer-back’ system so you know your vehicle responded to that lock or open command. On the Touring you have only one minor change and that is the frameless auto diming mirror with HomeLink has been done with and replace with a framed one which is found to provide better focus and reduces driver fatigue. Where seating is concerned, heating is added to front seats on the Sport trim. From the Touring trim upwards seating is now for either 6 or 7 depending on whether captain’s chairs are added. On the Signature, the 7th seat is completely done with and now you have captain’s chairs with total seating for upto 6 passengers. The second row now has power tilt and slide which is a relief. On the Grand Touring the power lift gate is now hands free. Where infotainment upgrades are concerned, the 2020 CX-9 gets an upgraded 9-inch full-color touchscreen display from the Touring trim onwards.
Upgraded Power
The 2020 Mazda CX-9 is fitted with a spirited 2.5T Dynamic Pressure Turbo DOHC 16-valve, 4-cylinder VVT engine. It’s designed using Mazda’s SykActiv-G technology that provided optimum engine power while keeping the fuel consumption at a minimum. With the same combination you would get a max horsepower of 250hp and a max torque of 310 lb-ft using the right fuel in the previous model. In the 2020 edition, this has been tweaked to provide a max horsepower of 250hp but a max torque of 320 lb-ft. Our advisors at Mazda Phoenix highlighted that the 2020 Mazda CX-9 has an upgraded i-ACTIV AWD system with off-road traction assist that pairs well with the trademark SKYACTIV-VEHICLE DYNAMICS with G-Vectoring Control Plus.
